Nuclear Missile Silo Museum - Titan II

We go underground into the only remaining Titan II intercontinental ballistic missile silo. They let me go in first to film the control room. The tour lets you walk down the long spring suspended passageway to the missile silo. They have a real missile sitting there with no warhead, a large hole in the warhead chamber, and the exterior blast door permanently in the half open position. The open half has a glass roof over it. The whole place is unreal. This place was fully crewed, fuelled, and armed with a nuclear weapon from 1963 to 1987. Now you can drive up to the place and tour around the whole thing. The tour starts with a movie screening then a guide takes you down a few flights of stairs to the main level of the complex. Both before and after our underground tour I spend some time with the rocket engines on display outside. I’m trying to figure out how they run.
