Japan • Life in Tokyo • Promo • 1979 • The classic promo video for Life in Tokyo, cleaned up and synced to a contemporary audio remaster, of the original 7” single cut. • Life in Tokyo was in one sense perhaps just a throwaway disco pop song. But in hindsight it represents the start of the great leap forward for Japan, which quickly led to the recording of the Quiet life album just a few months later. It was a one-off collaboration with disco producer Giorgio Moroder, who also co-wrote the song with David Sylvian. Moroder was red hot at the time having produced I Feel Love and other ground-breaking disco hits for Donna Summer, and other artists in that era. Life in Tokyo failed to chart on its original April 1979 release. • There is no official upload of the Life in Tokyo promo, and it seems that there is no existing good quality version online.
