Court declares ex-president Donald Trump NOT immune from prosecution over January 6 case

DONALD Trump’s hopes for a potential second term in the White House have suffered a major blow after a court ruled he’s not immune to charges of plotting to overturn the 2020 presidential election. A three-judge panel of the US Circuit Court of Appeals in Washington, DC, ruled that the former president must go to trial on a criminal indictment over his actions that led to the January 6, 2021, US Capitol riots. “For the purpose of this criminal case, former President Trump has become citizen Trump, with all of the defenses of any other criminal defendant,” the 57-page ruling read. “But any executive immunity that may have protected him while he served as president no longer protects him against this prosecution. “At bottom, former President Trump’s stance would collapse our system of separated powers by placing the President beyond the reach of all three Branches.“ The panel added: “Presidential immunity against federal indictment would mean that, a
