The process of making traditional stone mortar

A mortar is a vessel-shaped container made of wood or stone for pounding rice, coffee or other processed ingredients. The rapid mechanization of agriculture has made mortars no longer popular, but occasionally they are still used to pound food such as cassava, herbs, fruit, coffee and others. Even though currently there are mostly wooden or iron mortars on the market, many people like stone mortars. Stone mortars are often found in villages on the island of Java, especially in areas around the mountains, because there are a lot of adesite stones as raw material for making mortar. This video is about the process of making traditional stone mortars. From the selection of stones, until the carving is actually done using manual and traditional tools. Let’s follow along with the manufacturing process, hopefully this is useful and thank you for watching our video. #stonecraftsmen#stonemortar#
