I’m back from salmon fishing and this week I am continuing to work on the handrails. To preserve the look of the cabin, I do not want to to install a log bottom rail or spindles made from logs. Instead, I have decided to install a cable rail system beneath the log top rail. The cabling does not block the view from either the inside or the outside of the cabin and goes well with the feel of the logs.
The problem was the cost of the cable rail systems. I have 75 LF of handrail on this small cabin and the cost of a quality cable system was in the thousands of dollars. So I have decided to build it myself. I purchased 600 LF of 3/16“ galvanized cable, 1/4“ all-thread, bolts, nuts and washers for about $. I did not complete the railing in this video but I made some good progress. Let me know what you think of the results.
