His Laptop decided to commit die while making it. Still want to give him props for helping out. @FCXAnimations Category 5, a delineation reserved for only the strongest observed tropical cyclones. With wind speeds of at least 157 mph, category 5 hurricanes are guaranteed to create absolute destruction. Only 6% of hurricanes have become category 5 since 1924. An even rarer occurrence is when those hurricanes actually make landfall. In the Continental United States, many have come close, but only 4 hurricanes accomplished such a feat: the Labor Day Hurricane in 1935, Hurricane Camille in 1969, Hurricane Andrew in 1992, and the topic of today’s video, Hurricane Michael in 2018. In Early October 2018, a disorganized area of storms in the Northwestern Caribbean Sea rapidly evolved into one of the strongest hurricanes to ever hit the United States. In the span of roughly 2 and a half days, the system evolved from a tropical storm, to a category 5 terror with one of the lowest landfalling pressures observed in the United States. Until Michael, the Florida panhandle’s recorded history had not yet seen a landfalling storm higher than category 3. Michael was the most formidable threat from a Tropical Cyclone to the Florida Panhandle since Hurricane Ivan in 2004, and Dennis in 2005. This year marks 5 years since Michael made landfall and left its mark on history in the states of Florida and Georgia. Today, I will be discussing the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season, as well as the origins, forecast, preparations, timeline of events, aftermath, historical significance, and retrospective on the community’s response 5 years later.
