Rachmaninov Vocalise
A song without words, dedicated to Antonina Nezhdanova (one of the most important sopranos of the first half of the 20th century), which the Russian composer wrote in 1915 for voice (soprano or tenor) and piano. Three years after completing the version for voice and piano, Rachmaninov himself made an adaptation for orchestra. Later, other musicians found this melody so irresistible, that they adapted it for all the instruments that one can imagine.
