Patrick visits Ron Arbour - September 1985

Thanks to James Fraser for this memorable Sky at Night video, originally transmitted in September 1985. Ron’s voice is quiet on this recording, so the volume needs to be set high for the playback. On this occasion Patrick visited Ron Arbour to see his computerised supernova patrolling 16-inch reflector and to see him grab an early photograph of Halley’s Comet, on its way to perihelion in a few months time. More than 30 years later Ron is still actively hunting supernovae (now with a C14) and has discovered dozens of them!
