Air News (1959)

Titles read: “AIR NEWS“. Battersea, London. Westland helicopter stands on landing platform at the opening of the new Westland heliport with blades revolving. The Mayor of Battersea (Councillor CE Lang), Chairman of Westland Aircraft (Mr Eric Mensforth) and John Hay MP (Joint Parliamentary Secretary of Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation) walk along the landing platform. Mr Hay walks forward to cut the tape for the opening ceremony, watched by officials and press. He then climbs into the helicopter for a ride. Inside the control tower we see a man sitting at a control desk who gives the signal for take off (thumbs up!). The helicopter takes off. Aerial shots as we fly over Fulham Power station and come back to the heliport again. Intertitle reads: “OLD SARUM“. At an Air Transport Training Centre in Salisbury we see a Beverley Transport command plane and a small Allouette helicopter on display. Army officers look at the aircraft.
