The construction of the complex was decided in 1934 by the provincial administration of Florence in order to create a convalescent hospital for the treatment of tuberculosis. The sanatorium Pratolino , named after Dr Guido Banti , was inaugurated on October 28, 1939. The building was converted into hospital equipment, a function it continued to perform until 1989. After its function as a sanatorium and hospital, after having welcomed a community of Kurds, Albanians and Somali refugees during the war in Somalia, the hospital is now completely disused.
