‘Drowning Girl’ Sculpture Turns Heads in Bilbao, Spain

A sculpture of a ‘drowning girl’ has caused quite a stir in Bilbao, Spain, after it suddenly appeared from the surface of the River Nervion last week. Created by Mexican artist Ruben Orozco as part of a campaign by BBK Foundation, the figure is either visible or submerged depending on the water’s tides. It is titled ‘Bihar’ (‘Tomorrow’ in Basque), and is meant to spark a conversation about sustainability and the climate crisis. Orozco told Spanish website Nius that he hopes the public statue makes people more aware of how ‘their actions can sink us or keep us afloat.’ » Sign up for our newsletter KnowThis to get the biggest stories of the day delivered straight to your inbox: » Subscribe to NowThis: For more climate change and world news, subscribe to NowThis News. #Art #ClimateAction #Spain #Politics #News #NowThis Connect with NowThis » Like us on Facebook: » Tweet us on Twitter:
