What Is a Screen?: Projection and Protection: On the Deep Optical and Ballistical Intersections of Screens John Durham Peters, with Kathryn Lofton Thursday, February 16, 2017, 1:30 pm Join John Durham Peters, Professor of English and Film and Media Studies, Yale University, in conversation with Kathryn Lofton, Professor of Religious Studies, American Studies, and History and Divinity, Yale University, on the topic of “Projection and Protection: On the Deep Optical and Ballistical Intersections of Screens.” This three-day lecture series, titled “What Is a Screen?,” is part of “Genealogies of the Excessive Screen,” a John E. Sawyer Seminar supported by a grant from the Mellon Foundation, which examines the proliferation and transformation of screens in contemporary culture. The project’s aim is to construct an interdisciplinary genealogical investigation that recovers and rethinks the environmental history of screens, presenting this history in a new light.
