Ezra Pound - The Cantos - Canto I

Ezra Pound’s Cantos represent some of the highest achievement in 20th century poetry. While mapping the history of man, the Cantos begin with an episode of Homer’s Odyssey, particularly the journey into Hades. Pound uses the 16th century Latin version of Homer by the obscure Andreas Divus, a book he had bought in Paris where he was perhaps the most important poet in the world in the first decades of the past century.
