The Road In The Sky (1931)

“High up in the Alps, shortening the way from Austria to Munich, men are digging and blasting their way for a new road.“ C/U of a map showing the route of a new road. Panning shot of a mountainous landscape with large number of men at work on road construction: “When the Highway is completed, it will be one of the highest in Europe... a triumph of man over nature.“ Nice shot of men at work high on the mountainside using electric drills. C/U of man sounding a hunting horn. L/S of men running along railway tracks then an explosion is seen. Earth is blasted out of the side of the mountain. Presumably the hunting horn provides a warning of an impending explosion. M/S of the men at work moving rocks by hand, throwing them into trucks on wheels. L/S of the trucks being pushed across a wooden bridge. Note: item length includes opening title sequence. Sequence features the words “Pathe Pictorial - Puts the World Before You“ over a shot of the River Thames with Tower Bridge in the background.
