I love jigheads and making them and this was kind of an experiment that got out hand. I wanted something that would make a craw fish lsoft plastic lure sit at the angry angle and thought about casting some lead into the traditional craw jig head shape. But then after emptying my pockets it seemed like penny was good alternative and cheap although these days they are not made of copper but copper plated steel. My first attempt was having the hook vertical, which worked like a ned rig with a big foot. So I tried about a 45 degree angle and this got me the angry stance . These generic amazon craws have floating claws but the weight of the penny really counter acts this and gives a better presentation than standard jig head.
Tools, materials ,method, madness
1p copper or any small coin will do, if you are look for more weight solder another to the underside
hacksaw to cut the slot
i widened the slot with diamond disc on dremel, a needle file will do the same job
to help the solder stick and flow i used some plumbers flux
in the slot and on the hook shank
The solder was lead free which came in a dremel blowtorch kit
I use a pair of mole grips to hold the hook and also protect it from the heat
of a cheap kitchen style blow lamp. Rather than direct the blowlamp onto the slot i heated the coin from the edge until melted the solder, kind of like a plumbing fitting
This joint is incredibly strong i could not pull it apart without destroying the hook with a pair of pliers and the hook itself was not softened by the heat
the hook generic 4/0 jig hook bought a number years ago on ebay
the baits soft plastic craw or crayfish with floating claws bought from amazon
