Fats’ biggest and most famous recording. Most popular of all versions, this one hit BIG all over the world.
“Blueberry Hill“ hit the Billboard R&B-charts on October 6, 1956 and reached POS. 1 for an astonishing 11 weeks. It stayed on the charts for 23(!) weeks.
His biggest Billboard POP-hit ever, entering on October 6, 1956 and reaching POS. 2 for 3 weeks. It stayed on the charts for 27 weeks.
The b-side, “Honey Chile“ hit POS. 11 on the Billboard R&B-charts.
Upon the release of the original Imperial 45 (X5407) as well as the album cut (Imperial LP 9028) an anomaly suddenly crops up, which can be heard at 1:06 into the recording at the lyric “Vows Me Made“. It was this version that almost exclusively was heard on radio, jukeboxes and home record players at the time. It is unknown when or how this apparent tape stretch or “wow“ occurred during the pressing process, but it represented an unrepairable issue on the master tape.

Fats’ recording of “Blueberry Hill“ was a cover of “the song with the same title by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra.
The song’s debut was in the movie “The Singing Hill“ performed by Gene Autry. Glenn however was the first to put it on wax.
