According to the ever-trusting google search, it was acceptable and pretty much practiced everywhere, for people to swim sans clothing. And it was not until 1947 when the term “skinny dipping” was first coined after advancements in swimwear material that could dry fast made it no longer necessary to swim in the buff. Personally, I’m not a fan of swimming in the nude in the ocean, lake, pond or river, because I am a little worried about dirt and other creepy crawlies getting into certain cervices, but taking the naked plunge in a clean pool is fine by me.
