Geneva, SWITZERLAND - 1986 World Figure Skating Championships, Men’s Long Program - Aleksandr Fadeev of the Soviet Union had a disastrous skate here -- touching down on the triple flip., stepping or falling out of both triple Axel attempts, and outright falling on a quadruple toe-loop attempt and on the triple loop. During this season, the ISU had voted to impose an automatic 0.1 deduction in the Technical Merit for each fall. Despite the falls and other errors, the Soviet judge, Tatiana Danilenko, gave him a 5.9 (meaning she was at least scoring him from a 6.1). The audience was so ourtraged that they boo-ed heavily for the scores given by her and the Austrian judge. The Soviet Federation, out of embarrassment, would suspend Danilenko before the ISU could. However, after the suspension, she would be allowed to continue judging, as she did in the Ladies’ Event at the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City. Fadeev would place 5th in the Long Program and end up dropping from 1st to 3rd Place overall
