Elon Musk REVEALS Why NASA Suspended All Mars Mission! NASA has not had any contact with any of its robotic missions on or around Mars for almost two weeks now. And so, what were the reason why NASA suspended all Mars mission? Let’s find out in today’s episode! Hello everyone! A phenomenon referred to as solar conjunction occurs between Earth and Mars for a brief period of time approximately once every two years. During this time, the two planets are positioned on opposing sides of the Sun. According to the information presented on the website dedicated to stargazing Mars will be obscured by the brightness of the Sun for a number of weeks at this time, and our ability to communicate with our robotic friends on the fourth rock will be limited at best. The Sun and Mars will both be located in the constellation Libra, which may be seen in the sky. During solar conjunctions, the distance between Mars and the sun is significantly less than the typical average of approximately 140 million miles. This distance is equivalent to around 2.5 astronomical units (AU) from Earth, which is equivalent to approximately 235 million miles. This is essentially the cosmic opposite of Mars opposition, which is when the Earth is instead trapped between Mars and the Sun (and the God of War planet appears particularly bloodthirsty in the night sky). Why, then, should we have to say goodbye to our mechanical robots? The Sun, which is essentially a gigantic sphere of interference, is the root of the problem, as far as we can tell. When rovers, orbiters, and even one remarkable helicopter attempt to relay data back to Earth, the information can be disturbed by the charged particles of the Sun, which could leave behind gaps in the data. On the other hand, the opposite outcome is much more catastrophic because incorrect commands transmitted by NASA could be the cause of the failure of a mission. That does not mean that these robots will be going on a lengthy vacation, according to NASA’s explanation. Mars Reconnaissance and Odyssey orbiters will continue on as usual (though without phoning home, of course), the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) spacecraft will still study the atmosphere, and even NASA’s pint-sized helicopter Ingenuity will monitor the movement of Martian sand while it is grounded. All of these rovers will continue to monitor the Martian surface while they are unable to move. Roy Gladden, manager of the Mars Relay Network at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, said in a press statement that “our mission teams have spent months preparing to-do lists for all of our Mars spacecraft.“ Over the course of the following two weeks, we should still be able to hear from them and check on their levels of health. Nevertheless, even these health checks won’t be possible for the full two days and nights that Mars will be directly obscured by the disk of the Sun.
