Memorable Concert - Ustad Zakir Hussain with Kathak Maestro Pandit Durga Lal - 1980s New Delhi

A rare concert between two masters of rhythm: Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain (1951-) and the late Kathak magician Pandit Durga Lal (1948-1990). Sarangi maestro Pandit Ramesh Mishra provides accompanime nt alongwith Pandit Fateh Singh Gangani on Pakhawaj, Ustad Abdus Sami Khan on sarangi. Pandit Durga Lal hailed from the Kathak school of the Jaipur Gharana and was awarded the Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Academy Award for his services rendered to Kathak. His untimely death at the young age of 42 shocked many fans and admirers. Ustad Zakir Hussain is a living legend and tabla exponent hailing from the Punjab Gharana, having received training from his father, Ustad Allah Rakha (1919-2000). Zakir ji is considered amongst a select group of music icons in the world. He has been awarded the Padma Bhushan for his services rendered to music.
