City of Bellevue accused of abandoning injured police officer due to lapse in benefits

Attorneys for a Bellevue police officer are accusing the city of leaving him without health benefits months after he was injured on the job. Motorcycle officer Kevin Bereta was working as a part of the security detail surrounding Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to Seattle last August. As he was traveling over the Michigan Street onramp, Officer Bereta’s motorcycle hit the side of the ramp, and he was ejected, flying over the railing and landing roughly 60 feet onto the highway below.
