Boney M.: Belfast [The Marek Mixes] (1977)

Belfast was Boney M.’s fourth international hit-single, and the first of which Marcia Barrett sang the lead vocal. The song, written by Drafi Deutscher in the early 70s, had originally been conceived under the title Londonderry and it became such a popular number when Boney M. performed it to Marcia’s backing track during their 1976 gigs that Farian had it recorded for their second album, Love For Sale. Interestingly, Gilla’s German version was the first to make it on record in January 1977 although her version was never a single release. Boney M.’s version was released on single in October 1977 and topped the charts in Germany & Belgium and peaked at #8 in the UK. The single’s B-side Plantation Boy, lead vocal by Liz Mitchell, has proven a fan favourite over the years. The album title track, Love For Sale, had been planned as a single for January 1978, but never happened except for a release in Brazil where Belfast was the B-side. 00:00 Belfast 05:21 Plantation Boy 12
