Who Paid $117,000 for a 1.8 Pound Hunk of Fungus?

The winner of an Italian auction paid $117,, or 103,000 Euro, for a white truffle. The over-the-top ingredient was purchased by Michelin-starred chef Umberto Bombana at the annual Alba White Truffle Fair. White truffles are only found by trained hunters, dogs or pigs. They’re typically located a few inches below the ground, near the roots of hardwood trees. White truffles have the very limited harvesting season of October through December.
