SpaceX Is FINALLY Getting Ready For Starship’s Wet Dress Rehearsal!
With a primary focus on the Orbital Launch Pad (OLP), SpaceX is working hard to get ready for the upcoming Starship mission. In the next week or two, Booster 10 and Ship 28 are scheduled to return to the launch site in preparation for a Wet Dress Rehearsal (WDR) that will set the stage for the third launch of the world’s largest and most powerful rocket. In today’s episode, let’s check the recent updates in Starbase.

SpaceX could keep to its timetable of meeting vehicle readiness by the end of January since both Ship 28 and Booster 10 are anticipated to return to the pad at the earliest next week.
Ship 28 was recently moved to a transport stand and taken off of the turntable. It is anticipated that similar to the previous two flights, SpaceX will execute a WDR when both vehicles return to the pad.
Because of the modifications and enhancements made to the Orbital Tarm Farm (OTF), this WDR maybe even more important than the previous two. SpaceX has altered the plumping so that the ship’s subcoolers are isolated from the booster ones and added additional pumps, and subcooleders since Flight 2. This would increase productivity and enable the stack to be fueled considerably more quickly.
And so, what are the recent modifications to the launch site and orbital tank farm?
One of the converted methane tanks and the old water tank were taken out and scrapped by SpaceX following the failure of Booster 10 and Ship 28. Since leaks had appeared early on, SpaceX had been forced to discard the old water tank, which had been out of service for some time.
Like the others utilized on the other cryo tanks, its water tank was merely a cryoshell. The tank was abandoned, nonetheless, because no more reinforcing was added to it. This water tank served as a stand-in for the repurposed methane tanks, which are utilized to power the heat exchangers in the cryo bunker. These heat exchangers most likely aid in the heating of liquid nitrogen, which is then utilized to assist in purging and boosting pressure in the cryo lines.
SpaceX has been finishing up minor changes throughout the OLP over the last few weeks. A concrete wall has taken the place of the HESCO barriers that were adjacent to the main blast wall guarding the tank farm. Because of erosion caused by repeated engine firings, plates are being placed on the concrete at the base of the tower.
The arm of the Ship Quick disconnect was repainted, and SpaceX may be upgrading the arm as well. On the orbital launch mount (OLM) ring, several burn plates have been replaced, particularly those close to the booster quick disconnect. Because of the pad avoidance maneuver, Starship does during liftoff, those get fried more than others.
The OLM deck and inner ring are protected by these plates, which function as ablative armor. In addition to all of the minor improvements, SpaceX is using this opportunity to fix any damage that remains from Flight 1, such fixing welds inside the OLM. To make this pad readily renovated, SpaceX still has a lot of work ahead of them.
The SpaceX LR11000 crane was placed aside along with all of the OTF modifications, and SpaceX and Buckner have been disassembling the crane component by component. Given that it was first raised more than two years ago, it is unclear if this is extensive maintenance or if it is being disassembled in preparation for transport.
