Tsunami waves HIT Japan as it braces for 16ft swells & coasts are evacuated after 7.6 earthquake

Tsunami waves have smashed into the coast of Japan after a series of powerful earthquakes rocked the country. The strongest of the quakes to strike central Japan measured 7.6 magnitude - triggering calls for coastal residents to “run“ to higher ground to escape expected waves of up to 16ft. A succession of 21 earthquakes registering 4.0 magnitude or stronger struck central Japan in just over 90 minutes at around 4pm, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The areas affected were the Toyama, Ishikawa and Niigata on the Sea of Japan side of Japan’s main island of Honshu.
