🌿Names of patterns used to describing clothing - English vocabulary lesson 🌿
Patterns are adjectives as they describe the design or appearance of an item of clothing.
In this English lesson we look at the names of some typical patterns used with clothing. There will be a picture of a pattern and then you will hear the pronunciation of its name. Then there is a basic description / definition of that pattern.
The 12 patterns we learn in this lesson are:
animal print, argyle, camouflage, checked, floral, paisley, pinstriped, plaid, plain, polka dot, striped, tie-dyed.
There are more types of patterns you will see on clothing though these are the most common words that people know and use in English.
As a part of this lesson, we look at the difference between checked, checkered and chequered.
We explain which of these words are used in British English and which in American English.
We also mention the difference between plaid and tartan.
