Front seat on FastFerry Amsterdam - IJmuiden along the North Sea Canal 2013 11 28

The fast ferry in it’s last days, aboard the fast ferry Rosanna. From a passenger’s seat in the front, a recording was made of the view over almost the full length of the journey, that goes from a mooring site in the vicinity of Amsterdam Central Station to a quay that sits next to the ferry port at IJmuiden across the North Sea Canal. In the last years, the maximum speed was reduced from 65 to 50 km/h. This was caused by some minor accidents, where passengers suffered small injuries, when not wearing the mandatory seat belts. The view includes the Amsterdam West harbor premises in almost it’s full length, and some ferries going across the North Sea canal, instead of along it. The channel, a direct connection of Amsterdam to the North Sea, opened in 1876, being about 75% narrower than it is now. Part of it was built in a lake that became a polder area.
