In 2000 the European Institute for Underwater Archaeology uncovered the remains of an ancient city off the coast of Egypt that, incredibly, had lain submerged beneath the waves for over 1,000 years. Since then, divers have excavated a host of age-old relics at the site – including fascinating shipwrecks. But in March 2019 the world discovered that the institute had found a wreck unlike any seen before. In fact, the only previous evidence that the hulk existed was one ancient historian’s description.
