Normans Conquest of Byzantine Italy

Normans conquest of Byzantine/Eastern Roman Italy (1018 - 1071) mark the end of Eastern Roman presence in Italian peninsula, begins with Justinian re-conquest under general Belisarius in 535 CE. Lombards pushed Eastern Romans to the southern peninsula in in 750 CE. Saracens from Sicily, Andalusia (Iberia) and Crete became mercenary in the feuds between Lombard and Eastern Romans in 9-10th century. in 11th century the feud attracting Norman mercenary, descendant of Vikings who excel in horsemanship and seafaring. Challenging both Romans and Lombards alike. Norman conquest begins with arrival of Drengot brothers headed by Ranulf in 1017 CE and ended with De Hauteville family headed by Robert in 1071 CE, ousting Eastern Romans in their last Italian stronghold in Bari.
