The girls are given new names and are forbidden to speak their native language. Instead, they study voodoo customs and take parts in magic rituals. During their stay, the kids don’t go to school. Taking a daughter back isn’t as easy as giving her away. Parents must carry out a special ceremony that costs tens of dollars - an unaffordable sum for local families.
