High-Fidelity Turbulent Combustion Simulations

Large Eddy Simulations of turbulence combined with advanced combustion models are essential tools for predictive internal combustion engine simulation, because they can capture cyclic variability. This simulation shows a very high-fidelity Large Eddy combustion calculation with n-dodecane used as a surrogate for diesel fuel and a minimum cell size in the order of 60 micrometers. To the best of our knowledge, this is one of the largest spray combustion simulations performed with a peak computational cell count of about 30 million.
