1,000 Miles Of Attack - 1943 | Movietone Moment | 3 June 2022

On this day in 1943, the Russian army took down 162 of 500 planes in one of the biggest air battles of World War II. Here is a British Movietone report featuring the 1,000 miles front from Stalingrad to Kursk, and from Orel to the Dnieper Line. The battle of Stalingrad was the turning point in the war on the Eastern front, since then the Germans have suffered defeat after defeat. The city is still in ruins but the Soviet people are beginning the rebuild. Victories have taken place along the 1,000-mile front from Stalingrad, along the shores of the Azov Sea, at Kharkov, Kursk, Orel and all the way to the Dnieper Line.
