This city was home to both pirates and Jews

I travel to the city of Essaouira, which was formerly known as Mogador by the Portuguese. Once upon a time this city played an important role in the Piracy which took place in North Africa during the 17th and 18th Centuries. Furthermore, before the 20th century, and at certain points, Jews constituted a majority of the city’s inhabitants. The Jewish community in Essaouira was one of the most vibrant in Morocco, with a rich cultural and economic life. The city was an important center for trade, connecting Morocco with Europe and sub-Saharan Africa, and Jewish merchants played a key role in these commercial activities.
