Specs For Showgirl (1959)

London. M/S of a man with a rather fine beard standing beside a seated woman with blonde hair. The man is placing some kind of measuring device on the woman’s head. C/U of the measuring tool being held over a box of fabulous 1950s spectacles - jewel encrusted with turning up tips - very chic. He selects a pair. C/U of the girl’s legs. She wears pink stiletto shoes, yellow shorts and fishnet tights. Camera tilts up to show the girl trying on the selected pair of spectacles. Narrator informs that she is 23 year old Margaret Stredder, one of the delightful “Vernons Girls“ - and one of the only showgirls or singers who wears her specs on stage and in front of the cameras. She looks into a small mirror and shows her approval. As she tries on various pairs of glasses her producer Jack Good of the “Oh Boy“ television show looks on. Some great C/Us of Margaret wearing some truly sensational specs. Good C/U of Jack Good who is looking through some kind of optical device to see what she will look like
