After rewachting the Lord of the Rings trilogy, I had to cover some of it’s epic soundtrack, originally written by Howard Shore. I always thought that this part was the moodiest of them all.
Before starting off, I didn’t notice that it’s written in 5/8, with the second part of the melody starting on the 35th beat and resolves after 70 beats. Kind of a challenge with a 64 step sequencer..
Set-up:
Keystep Pro is USB slaved to Ableton
Keystep Pro controls the:
- Track 1: Brass & Cello ensemble packs from Ableton for main melody
- Track 2: Arturia Minibrute 2s for main melody
- Track 3: Korg Minilogue xd for opening line
- Track 4: Arturia Microfreak Vocoder Edition for ambient sounds & Moog DFAM for drums. Pitch info only goes to the Microfreak, so this worked out pretty well actually
