(17 Feb 2014) Dozens of costumed canines and their owners gathered at Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday to take part in a pre-carnival bash. Around 100 dogs in all kinds of costumes got into the spirit of carnival for the annual four-footed fest, now in its fifteenth year. One owner went even further, dying the coat of her pet poodle an array of bright colors. And it wasn’t just the dogs that were enjoying the party, one man brought his cat, wearing bright blue wings, to dance the afternoon away. Some dog owners were also wearing costumes, and many of them even wore the same costume as their pets. From now until the official opening of Carnival, on 28 February, thousands of block parties will fill the streets of Rio de Janeiro.
