Knew Concepts Precision Saw Guide

The Knew Concepts Precision Saw Guide is the new, improved version of our Precision Saw Guide. It has a lightweight 7 ounce anodized aluminum frame, now with a reinforced aluminum guide frame which makes the entire unit almost 6 ounces lighter than before. The Mk3 version has been improved in other areas: • The saw frame now uses the same lever tensioning as our best hand saws • The table has grown to 6“ square, to better support larger inlay pieces • Most noticeably, the saw guide now fits onto a standard jeweler’s dovetail mounting. Which means you can mount it on your bench quickly, without having to find a place to clamp it outside your normal working area. It is available in a kit with our new Dovetail Bench Clamp, for those who don’t have dovetail plates already, or for those who want the ability to move the sawguide around the shop, or the world. Vertical alignment is incorporated into the frame itself. A ball bearing wheel at the top, and a grooved roller at the bottom and provide perfect alignment, and at the same time allow immediate removal of the saw for blade changes. The upper guide wheel runs within a vertical slot that has a keyhole opening at the top for disengagement. The bottom guide is simply the front of the frame running in the lower wheel. Hold-down pin: This is a brass pin mounted in a swivel that holds the metal down as you saw. It helps to reduce blade breakage as the metal cannot suddenly bind and jump. Easily adjustable for various material thicknesses, including plexiglas for matrix dies. The pin also provides guidance and support to the blade itself, allowing more pressure to be applied to the blade. Bench pin: The new table is a 6“ slab of hard anodized aluminum with a narrow slot. Bench pin tilts 45 degrees each way for angular cuts, such as metal cutting dies, or double-bevel wood inlay. Uses: Originally intended for the precision angle piercing required for metal cutting dies, we soon discovered that the saw was great for making perfectly vertical cuts in a variety of materials: lexan for matrix dies, as well as hard carving wax for wax casting models. The saw’s latest trick goes back to its roots: making precisely controlled angled cuts. This time in wood, for double-bevel style inlay. What’s the difference between the two optional bench clamps? The optional bench clamps for the Precision Mk3 Saw Guide are sold in two different versions—Anvil and Magnet. • Anvil version: Since the hard aluminum is not hard enough to pound on, we have the Anvil version of the clamp that has a 2“ hardened steel disk that you can pound on.
