Clowns Club (1955)

Croydon, Surrey. C/U of a white faced clown. His face is heavily made up and he wears a white conical hat. L/S shows that he is sitting at a table with a man who is painting an eggshell to show the particular design of this clown’s make up. C/U of the artist, C/U of the egg being painted and the clown posing. The egg is turned and the artist paints on an ear. Narrator explains that this is to safeguard the unwritten law that clowns do not copy the make-up of another clown. The painter is Mr Stan Bult (sp? - this is spelling in commentary paperwork) who is the secretary of the International Circus Clown Club. He is painting egg shells to build up a register of faces. C/U of the tools of his trade - paintbrushes, eggs and paints. C/U of the design he is working on, Mr Bult and the clown. C/U of the egg as some black hair is applied - quite funny!
