Pig Heart Transplant Recipient Lawrence Faucette Expresses Optimism Prior to His Historic Surgery

A second successful pig heart transplant was performed at the University of Maryland Medical Center on September 20, 2023. The new patient, Lawrence Faucette, had end-stage heart disease. He was deemed ineligible for a traditional transplant with a human heart due to his pre-existing peripheral vascular disease and complications with internal bleeding. Before his surgery, Faucette expressed optimism about his surgery.
