Classical Music Discord: Fazıl Say ( b. 1970 ) Fazıl Say (Turkish: [faːˈzɯɫ saj]; born 14 January 1970 in Ankara) is a Turkish pianist and composer. Paganini Variations for Piano ( 1988 ) Paganini Jazz by Fazil Say (*1970) consists of variations on a theme from Paganini’s famous Caprice No. 24 in A minor for Violin. The work was composed in 1988 and was originally to be an encore. Fazil then rewrote and expanded it several times between 1988 and 1995. It is in a modern jazz idiom but is also inspired by classical as well as contemporary music. Say did not conceptualize his virtuoso jazz variations as a closed cycle but, similar to a jazz improvisation, as an open form.
