Two “Sources of the Nile“

For some reason, there are two races with the same name “Source of the Nile“ in our city of Jinja and both are half-marathons. The name is cool and suits both races. Generally speaking, it is a great temptation to call everything the “source of the Nile“ here in Jinja. This source is a genius loci whose spirit captivates everybody who understand the greatness of the Nile River in geography, economics and history. The difference of competitions is that in September it is a trail race, and in February it is an a road. It is impossible to compare results and records of runners in these races, if some of them took part in both. Those with a target time of 1 hour on coming Sunday, finished the trail half-marathon in 2 hours. Today we look back to September and recall how we ran at the source of River Nile through the red dirt of Uganda, up to our ears, carrying 3 kilograms on each sneaker, sliding down the slopes on our behinds, but happy and confident in ourselves. Edward, Moses, Okia and Alex share their anticipation before the start and emotions after the finish. The most meaningful comment, when asked about “what the race was like“, was given by Okia Mawazi: “Oh, my God... it was wonderful!“ The questions were asked by Issac Hiire, the journalist, musician and sports enthusiast from Mbale.
