The Haunting (1963) - Movie Review

#MovieReview The Haunting was a 1963 black and white British horror movie, directed by Robert Wise, of Sound of Music and Star Trek: the Motion Picture fame. While it is a horror film, and there are some creepy elements and a few jump scares, I’d call this primarily a psychological horror film that, for the most part, leaves you guessing what on earth is going on at this creepy old mansion. The plot is straight-forward enough: So Dr. John Markway (played by Richard Johnson) is something of a paranormal investigator, and he wants to check out the old Hill House place, which has a long backstory of nasty things happening there. He goes there with nervous and mousy Eleanor “Nell“ Lance (played by Julie Harris) who had a previous supernatural experience, and who until recently had spent years caring for an invalid mother (this is important later in the story).
