The Song Society No.3 Notes on Can’t Feel My Face - This song entered my brain by osmosis though I’ve been a fan of The Weeknd since the early mixtape and after reading that Abel Tesfaye grew up listening to Mulatu Astatke. I heard it everywhere over the summer and felt like I could play before I had even learned it. I was wrong. This song is much cleverer than just its catchiness. Unusual placement of the chords, superb and insistent rhythms in the melody and a desolate, desolate depressing lyric. Awesome. __________ I love learning other people’s songs.
