THE ART OF BLUES GUITAR...

Blues is one of the most versatile styles of music, and the feel, inflections, techniques, & tones that originated in early blues music have been applied to nearly every genre. The styles of blues guitar that have developed through the years are nearly endless, but here’s a little trip through some of the heavy hitters. Many of these styles owe their name to the combination of genres that led to their creation, like Ragtime Blues, Gospel Blues, Blues Rock, Surf Blues, etc, while others are more of a sub-genre within the Blues idiom, named after the region they sprung from, like Delta Blues, Hill Country Blues, Piedmont Blues, Texas Blues, etc. Many of the compositions themselves don’t define the type of blues, instead it’s the instrumentation or production techniques that create the overall feel of the genre. For example, upright bass and slap echo on the guitar create the Rockabilly vibe, while the combination of early Rock & Roll, Country, and Folk instrumentation and tones create a distinct Americana
