EU’s latest effort to tackle soaring energy prices

The European Union has proposed new measures including windfall taxes on rich fossil fuel firms to contain high energy prices. The new plan is also the latest effort by the EU to wean itself off Russian oil and gas. Is the EU plan enough for the coming winter as German chancellor Olaf Scholz recently said? How will the EU deal with the energy shortage in the long term? And what role is the U.S. playing in the EU energy crisis?
