Stanchinsky: Nocturne (1907)

The lovely Nocturne in E major by the Russian Alexei Stanchinsky (1888-1914). Stanchinsky was well-known in his day; composers like Prokofiev, Medtner, and Feinberg admired his compositions. However, he died tragically young and has largely been forgotten--this itself is a world premiere recording, and as far as I know, several of Stanchinsky’s works have never been recorded. This nocturne is from the excellent disc “Twelve Nocturnes and a Waltz“ by Robert Henry, which is available on iTunes and Amazon
