Coastal Restoration and Superstorm Sandy

In 2012, Superstorm Sandy ravaged the coastlines of New Jersey and New York. Many areas of Long Beach Island in New Jersey experienced extensive damage due to low sand dunes and beaches in need of replenishment. Further south, the beach replenishment and dune and wetland restoration at the Conservancy’s South Cape May Meadows Preserve helped protect homes from the worst impacts of the storms. Homeowners from Cape May Point and Long Beach Island share their stories. Photos by Bridget Besaw
