Walking in Zhenyuan Ancient Town, China’s Thousand-year-old HIDEN GEM

The dragon boat race in Zhenyuan Ancient Town was postponed to July this year. In order to appreciate the excitement of the dragon boat race and the beauty of the ancient town, I braved the scorching heat to come to Zhenyuan again in July. I shot a video of Zhenyuan before, and this time I shot a completely different feeling. I hope you can see the changes in this ancient town by comparing the two videos. Zhenyuan Ancient Town Located on eastern part of Guizhou Province, Zhenyuan has long been an ancient town of the Miao people. Time-honored history endows Zhenyuan Ancient Town with many rich and generous cultural relics, making it much like a historic garden. The town covers only an area of 3.1 square kilometers (about 1.2 square miles) but greets you with more than 160 scenic spots including caves, palaces, pavilions, temples and rivers with their unique architecture, exquisite engravings and marvelous natural landscape. Among them are the famous Wuyang River Scenic Area and elegant ancient complex in the the Black Dragon Cave (Qinglong Cave) - beckoning sights not to be missed by any visitor to eastern Guizhou. Located at the edge of Yunnan-Guizhou plateau, Zhenyuan is sheltered by the mountains. Zhenyuan Ancient Town is a land-and-water transportation center since early times. In 202 BC, the town became a county instituted by Han Gaozu, Emperor Liu Bang, and then in 1956 - the capital of southeast Guizhou Autonomous Prefecture. Cut through by the Wuyang River, Zhenyuan Ancient Town is divided into two parts: south ’Wei City’ and north ’Fu City’, which forms a water town. Hence it is well-reputed as the ’Oriental Venice’. As an historic cultural city, Zhenyuan is rich in tourist resources. With sub-tropical humid climate, annual temperature in Zhenyuan averages 16.4 degree with four distinct seasons. It is therefore an ideal tourist destination all year round. Thousand-year-old Zhengyuan Ancient Town is located in the east of Guizhou, known as the gateway of Hunan-Guizhou where rail roads pass by the county. There are a large number of historical architectures, traditional folk houses and ancient wharfs along the emerald Wuyang River such as Qinglong Cave, Shiping Mountain and Tiexi Scenic Area, etc., which attracts countless Chinese and foreign tourists every year. With more than 20 minorities living harmony at Zhenyuan Ancient Town, it is also being praised as the “World Cultural Protection Circle”. Embraced by mountains, Zhenyuan Ancient Town is a hidden gem located in a corner of Kaili, Guizhou Province. While it is not as famous as other ancient towns, Zhenyuan Ancient Town is a tranquil place to escape from the noisy metropolises and areas that are packed with tourists. Join in with the Dragon Canoe Festival The Dragon Canoe Festival (or Dragon Boat Festival) is the largest annual celebration in Zhenyuan Ancient Town. The Dragon Boat Festival is the most ceremonious celebration in Zhenyuan. Like other towns and cities on rivers in southern China, Zhenyuan Ancient Town is a popular location for celebrating this festival. The best travel season is summer as the weather is pleasantly cool and the scenery is better due to the increased water flow in the Wuyang River. However, summer is also the rainy season so rain gear is necessary. As the temperature varies greatly from morning to evening, prepare some long-sleeved clothing, even if you are going there in summer. Wear a pair of hiking shoes and prepare a pair of sandals, if possible. -------------------⭐⭐ Other Walk East’s Cool Playlists: Night Walking Tour In China’s Metropolitan Cities: China’s Stunning Old Towns: Shanghai City Classic Scenes: 4K⁶⁰ Driving In China: -------------------⭐⭐ 0:00 Intro 1:49 Night Tour in Ancient town 1:19:00 Ancient Lanes of the town 1:49:52 Dragon Boat Race Day Tour -------------------⭐⭐ #Zhenyuan #Guizhou
