Due to the city being a leading global technology hub, Shenzhen has been dubbed by media China’s Silicon Valley. The city’s entrepreneurial, innovative, and competitive-based culture has resulted in the city being home to numerous small-time manufacturers or software companies. Several of these firms became large technology corporations such as phone manufacturer Huawei, holding company Tencent, and drone-maker DJI. As an important international city, Shenzhen hosts numerous national and international events every year, such as the 2011 Summer Universiade and the China Hi-Tech Fair. Shenzhen’s rapid success has resulted in the China turning Shenzhen into a model city for other cities in China and the world to follow. Futian District (simplified Chinese: 福田区; traditional Chinese: 福田區; pinyin: Fútián Qū; Jyutping: fuk1tin4 keoi1) is one of the nine districts comprising the city of Shenzhen, China. The district is home to the government and Municipal Committee of Shenzhen, as well as the city’s central business district (CBD). The Central Business District (CBD) of Shenzhen is a planned development project that began in the early 1990s. Located within the Futian district, it comprises an area of 607 hectares. The four sides of the district are delineated by Binhe Dadao, Lianhua Road, Xinzhou Road and Caitian Road. Many office high-rises and government buildings are located in the CBD, some of which are prominent buildings in Shenzhen, such as the Shenzhen City Hall (Civic Center), Shenzhen Library, Shenzhen Concert Hall, Shenzhen Development Bank building and the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. Located directly north of the CBD is Lianhuashan Park. There are numerous skyscrapers in the CBD such as the SEG Tower, China Merchants Bank Tower, the twin towers of East Pacific Center, and the 600 m (1969 ft) Ping An Finance Center, which is the second tallest building in China and the fourth tallest in the world. Luohu District is a district of Shenzhen, China, located north of the New Territories of Hong Kong, east of Futian District, southeast of Longgang District, southwest of Pingshan District, and west of Yantian District. Luohu serves as an important immigration control between Hong Kong and mainland China. Two immigration control points, Luohu and Man Kam To, are located in the Luohu district. Luohu is known in Hong Kong and Guangdong for shopping. Most one-day visitors from Hong Kong limit their shopping to Luohu Commercial City (羅湖商業城/罗湖商业城), located right outside the Luohu Immigration Control Point, but the areas of Dongmen (東門/东门), Guomao (國貿/国贸), and Diwang (地王) are also important shopping districts. Lianhuashan Park (Chinese: 莲花山公园) is a hill and urban park in Shenzhen, China, inaugurated in 1997. It is located at the northern end of the Futian Central Business District and covers an area of 150 hectares (370 acres). It is within walking distance from Children’s Palace Station of the Shenzhen Metro. A 6-meter-high statue of former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping stands on a hilltop at the center of the park and dominates the monumental perspective of Futian, marking the northern end of an axial composition that evokes urban design patterns of Imperial China.
