Have you ever wanted to see how storms work? Ever wanted to mimic the coriolis effect without making a mess? Well, you’re in luck! Grand Illusions introduced me to something called a Vortex Dome a few years ago and I got one after seeing how much fun it is! It’s a controlled spinnable little dome full of rheoscopic fluid, if you spin it counterclockwise, it looks like storms in the northern hemisphere, however if you spin it clockwise, it looks like storms within the southern hemisphere. Spin it one way, then quickly the other way, to see a complex storm system that may be the result of two opposing fronts running into each other, like when a hurricane merges with a low pressure system that originates from the west. I’m a huge weather nerd, so I love stuff like this.
